Trout fishing permit requirements

Background

The decision to require fishing permits in certain situations must make the best biological and economic sense in that instance.

Staff is considering the following to address this issue:

  • Clinch Mountain and Crooked Creek Fee Fishing Areas - The proposed change would allow children 12 years and under to fish without a permit in the entire Fee Fishing Area if under the direct supervision of a permitted adult. The combined daily creel limit for both adult and child/children would not exceed six trout. With the increased cost of a daily permit, this change should help parents/guardians to bring younger anglers to the fee area. This also would make regulations consistent among the three fee fishing areas since the Douthat Fee Fishing Area already permits this activity.
